Mayor Alfred Edward Syson

b. 1880 in Lincoln

d. 1952 in Gosport

Alfred Syson joined the Royal Marines in 1898 and was wounded at Gallipoli in May 1915

He competed in the 1912 Olympics in Sweden in the Individual Men's Sabre reaching the Semi-finals. As well as competing he was also one of the judges of the Men's Gymnastics competition. (The 1916 Games were cancelled due to the War)

He worked in the physical education department and was instrumental in pushing for compulsory PE at school.
